The image models that read their own lettering

A whole prompt list through
Qwen Image

Qwen Image is the image line from Alibaba's Qwen team, the same group behind the Qwen language models, and it made its name on one thing other generators kept fumbling: words inside the picture, in Chinese as well as English. This page runs three of its models — Qwen Image 3.0, Qwen Image 3.0 Pro and the open-weight Qwen Image 2.1 — across a full prompt list in a single batch.

One per line — each line is a separate prompt.

Where the Qwen Image line came from, and why it matters

The version numbers here do not line up with release order, and that trips people up. Two branches run side by side: a closed API line that got the 3.0 number, and an open-weight line that is still on 2.x. Knowing which is which explains most of the differences in the table below.

It started with typography

The first Qwen Image arrived in August 2025 as a 20-billion-parameter MMDiT model under Apache 2.0, and its README singled out text rendering, especially Chinese, as the headline result. That reputation for legible characters inside a scene is what the whole family has been built outward from.

3.0 is the dense-layout generation

Alibaba announced Qwen Image 3.0 in July 2026 with a different goal: images that carry information. Its launch material shows infographic grids, small print, mathematical formulas and UI mockups in one pass, with text in a dozen languages. Unlike the first release, the 3.0 weights have not been published; it is an API model.

2.1 is the open branch, released later

Qwen Image 2.1 came out in September 2026, two months after 3.0, with weights on Hugging Face and ModelScope under the Qwen Research License. Its visual generator is a 7B model that handles generation and editing in one checkpoint, composes several reference images into one frame, and is pitched on keeping a person or product recognisable.

Three Qwen Image models, column by column

Credits, resolution tiers, aspect ratios, reference-image ceilings and prompt length for each Qwen Image model, read from the same configuration the batch form uses. Where the three differ, the table is the place to check rather than this paragraph.

Notice where the columns split: the 2.1 column is not a cut-down 3.0. On references and framing it reaches further than either 3.0 model, which is why the FAQ treats it as a separate choice rather than the budget one.

Pick the branch, then load the list

A Qwen Image run has one decision up front — which of the three models does the work — and after that it is the usual BulkImagen loop of rows, references and a confirmed total.

  1. 01

    Choose 3.0, 3.0 Pro or 2.1

Text-heavy layouts point to the 3.0 pair: Qwen Image 3.0 for volume, Qwen Image 3.0 Pro when the grid is dense and the output is going to a client. When the batch hinges on matching several existing photos, or on an unusually tall or wide frame, take Qwen Image 2.1.

  2. 02

Write the copy into the prompt

If a poster needs a headline, put the exact words in quotes inside each row, in whichever language the poster is in. Qwen Image is at its best when the lettering is spelled out rather than implied, and a spreadsheet column of headlines maps cleanly onto rows of the batch.

  3. 03

    Confirm, read, export

The confirmation screen shows the credit total before anything is queued. As results come in, actually read the text on each one — vendor demos are not your copy — then keep the good renders and download the selection as a single ZIP.

Batches that play to Qwen Image's strengths

The family's published examples lean heavily on images that have to say something. These are the runs where that matters more than raw painterly style.

Bilingual posters and packaging

A product launch that needs the same poster with Chinese and English headlines, or a run of packaging fronts with real product names, is the job Qwen Image was originally known for. One row per variant, one batch, and every result gets checked for spelling before it ships.

Infographics, slides and explainers

Qwen Image 3.0 and 3.0 Pro were launched on dense layouts: multi-panel grids, labelled diagrams, small captions. A lesson deck or a set of explainer cards can go in as a list of briefs and come back as a set to edit down, instead of a day in a layout tool.

Product sets from reference photos

Qwen Image 2.1 composes several reference images into one frame and is described by its team as preserving identity for people and products. Upload the product shots once and let every row of the batch place them into a different scene.

Qwen Image questions

  • Alibaba's Qwen team, the group that also builds the Qwen large language models. Z-Image, which is also on BulkImagen, comes from a different Alibaba team, Tongyi-MAI — related company, separate model line.
  • Because they are different branches. Qwen Image 3.0 and 3.0 Pro were announced in July 2026 as hosted API models. Qwen Image 2.1 followed in September 2026 as the open-weight branch you can download. A higher number is not a newer release here, and it is not strictly a better model either.
  • Alibaba's cloud documentation describes the standard 3.0 model as a faster variant with the same capabilities as Pro, while Pro is positioned as the flagship for complex layouts. In practice: draft and run volume on 3.0, and move the densest or most important layouts to 3.0 Pro. The per-image rates sit side by side in the table above.
  • For dense text and small print, the 3.0 pair — that is what their launch was about. Qwen Image 3.0 is the one we would start with for headline work in Chinese or English. Either way, a short test batch with your real copy beats any demo image.
  • All three models here accept reference images alongside the prompt. Qwen Image 2.1 is the one built around multi-reference composition, and it takes more references per call than the 3.0 models; the exact ceiling for each is in the table above.
  • Partly. The original Qwen Image was released under Apache 2.0. Qwen Image 2.1 has downloadable weights, but under the Qwen Research License, which is not the same as Apache, so read it before shipping the weights in a commercial product. The 3.0 models have no published weights.
  • Not yet. Its GitHub page does describe RGBA output, but on BulkImagen every Qwen Image model returns a standard opaque image and the background control does not appear for them. If a cut-out is what the batch needs, check the model table on the /models page for the models that do offer one.
  • Treat them as vendor claims. Coverage at launch noted that Alibaba showed curated examples and did not publish a technical report, so small-text and formula results are best judged on your own prompts, which is exactly what a small first batch is for.
  • Yes. Drop in a CSV or Excel file, point at the prompt column, and every row becomes one image in the Qwen Image batch. It is the easiest way to run a list of headlines or product names without retyping them.
  • You see the total before the run starts, and if a render fails its credits go back to your balance. Any single row can be re-run on its own, or sent to a different Qwen Image model without rebuilding the list.

Put your copy into Qwen Image

Bring the list of headlines, product names or briefs, pick Qwen Image 3.0, 3.0 Pro or 2.1 for the job, and let one batch render every row. Read the lettering, keep the winners, take them away as a ZIP.
